If you own or operate a Denver business, or are a sales professional in Denver, I recommend that you join this group (membership is free) http://www.budurl.com/DenverBusinessGroup
One of the reasons I elected to take over the organization of this group and to redirect the theme of the group is because I sense that certain irresponsible advertising agencies are beginning to do with social media services what they have long done in small business advertising.
And that’s to use it as a tool to foist dollar-wasteful “Me-too” marketing methods on hapless business owners with a completely new medium. The goal behind the 60+ member business network is to help each business owner within the group to share resources, case studies and potential partnership opportunities while studying the strategy and tactics of effective social media.
Denver social media marketing through practical and manageable step-by-step implementation has been the focus of the seminars so far. While many marketing professionals don’t dare talk explicitly about business growth (for fear of being found out), this network of business owners have made business growth the aim of their involvement on social media platforms.
About 2 weeks ago, I shared with you that I would be making a renewed commitment to leveraging the best and most powerful business tools available to me. If you market your business using the internet, and have managed to neglect the strategic use of digital video marketing, you won’t be able to do so for very much longer.
I, for one, am no longer waiting for my competitors to completely overwhelm me with smart video marketing before I jump in. I’m getting over my embarrassment (or is it fear?) of being seen on video in front of a world wide audience. Although I have 2 camcorders I bought in the last 2 years, I decided to pick up a “Flip cam” during the holiday season so I could make a lot more videos on the go.
Great location, great meetup, great collection of entrepreneurs. If you live in Denver, and are at all interested in learning fast-track business growth strategies, join our free Membership Meetup group.
Twitter drag race and the brewing controversy in the Twitter-verse!
Who won the twitter drag race between me @CoachGogo and @WholesalePlus?
When we started on Thursday, WholesalePlus had 130 followers
CoachGogo (me) had 43 followers
When we ended midnight on Sunday (note: I’m 2 hours behind his time zone, even though I’m not calling it), WholesalePlus had 179 followers
CoachGogo (me) had 170 followers
You can hear my thoughts on this brewing controversy here:
Are you marketing your brand and your business with Twitter?
You can use our “Twitter Drag Race” case study to increase your followership on Twitter, and learn from what we’re doing with Twitter as we continue to research this exciting micro-blogging platform.
If you’ve been tooling around the digital landscape for a while you’re probably very familiar with url shortener website services like www.Tinyurl.com
If used tiny url and another one which I can’t remember right now for a while, but I recently signed up to Twitter (a 140-character or less micro-blogging service) and found that I’m having serious issues staying with the 140 character limit. Apparently I inherited my late father’s gift for..um…verbosity.
Anyway, after having swallowed up my nervousness (See: Why I was nervous about joining Twitter) and signing up for Twitter, I ran smack dab into this brevity issue and even tinyurl didn’t seem to be enough…
I needed every last character of space I could find to get most of my ideas out within one tweet (and regardless of what Twitter etiquette allows or doesn’t, certain character quirks won’t let me even attempt to divide my thoughts into 2 tweets – Is that even allowed in Twitterdom?)
Anyway, what I’m trying to get at is that I found this nifty url shortening website at http://is.gd (My question: How is that domain even possible? were the DNS guards asleep? Is that even legal?).
So now my twittering has an 8 character breathing space (tinyurl’s were mostly 25 characters) because the is.gd urls have been coming out at 17 characters…(ahhh the freedom)
If you feel like you’ve been getting to many invitations into your email inbox to try out “one too many” social networking sites, now’s not the time to give up on social media in your marketing.
In a recent post, I talked about how Google has given a leg up to big brand (read: Fortune 1000) big business sites and how the cascading waves of that move could have a chilling effect on the effectiveness of your content-based search marketing. That Google dance warning post should give you pause if you were planning to isolate yourself from the incessant chatter of the blogosphere or the other web 2.0 properties.
Now more than ever, your website will need to generate traffic and make sales on the back of the networks found on the social media websites.
